The black bog is a raised bog at the border triangle of Hesse, Thuringia and Bavaria in the Bavarian Rhön. Since the bog has been protected since 1939 and has been completely spared from peat extraction, it is now one of the most important raised bogs in Central Europe and belongs to the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön. This tour starts in the northernmost city of Bavaria, in Fladungen. Franconian hospitality awaits you here in medieval half-timbered - but only after the sporting activity.
The black bog is a bog. That's why it goes uphill from 400 to around 800 meters. Unfortunately, you can not cross the moor by bike. However, it is very worthwhile to take a break and to take the circular route through the moor on a wooden footbridge on foot. The unique moor landscape will inspire you and, with a little luck, a few of the rare species that still live here will show up. For a quick overview, the 17-meter high observation tower on the edge of the moor offers.
Go on. Along small rivers and streams, along quiet roads and gravel paths, the route leads back to Fladungen, where said Franconian hospitality of the "state-approved resort" awaits you and offers you well-deserved refreshment. One thing is guaranteed: that you are exhausted but happy and satisfied to head home.
