Hiking

Embark on a moderate hike along the Adolf Munkel Trail, a 5.0-mile (8.1 km) route that offers stunning views of the jagged Geisler peaks. You'll gain about 1275 feet (389 metres) in elevation over approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes, winding through peaceful forests and open alpine meadows. The path brings you directly beneath the impressive sawtooth spires of the Odle Group, creating a dramatic backdrop for your journey. Look for benches along the way that provide perfect spots to pause and take in the towering mountains. The trail reaches its highest point near Malga Casanago and Rifugio Odle, offering expansive vistas.

Your hike starts at the Zanser Alm parking area, which is easily accessible. If you're driving, be aware there's a daily parking fee of €10 at Malga Zannes. Alternatively, you can reach the trailhead conveniently by bus if you are coming from Bressanone. There are three different huts along the route where you can stop for food and drinks, so you don't need to carry a heavy pack. Make sure to bring water, but you can also refill at a refreshing mountain water source along the way.

This trail is celebrated for its unique combination of dramatic mountain scenery and classic alpine charm. It is considered one of the most spectacular routes in the Dolomites, offering a distinct experience compared to other trails in the region. The path provides excellent opportunities for photography, especially where the spires peek through the trees. You'll find panoramic views at Glatsch Alm, often with fewer crowds than other popular spots, making it a peaceful highlight of your journey.

September 19, 2022,Villnöß5: Almwanderung - Vier Hütten unter den imposanten Geislerwänden
Start: paid car park Zanser Alm (2022: 8€)
Character: Beautiful hike on steep tracks and farm roads through rural cultural landscape, intact mountain forests and blooming alpine meadows. In wet weather, the relatively steep descent from the Geisler Alm to the Duslerhütte (path 36) can be very slippery. The alternative on such days is the road.

Very beautiful hike with recurring views of the mighty Geisler peaks. Lots of huts/alpine pastures for strengthening and quenching thirst. Super paths, easy to walk. Not crowded at all today.

A beautiful route that starts from the parking lot itself. Normally people do it in the opposite direction, but I personally think it is better to go counter-clockwise, both because of the hard climb in the other direction and because of the views of the mountain range that you have at all times.

Standing directly on the Geisler peaks is simply magnificent.

The Geisler hut is already open, the others will probably not open until June 15th.

Today we took a risk: there was a mix of sun and clouds and we drove to the Villnöss Valley to see the impressive Geisler peaks. Unfortunately, the cloud cover was very dense again, so although it was a lovely hike, we were never able to see the peaks. There were lots of babbling brooks. I love this sound almost …

Scenic hiking trails lead you to the alpine hut at the foot of the Villnösser Geisler. There are many different hiking trails to reach the Geisleralm, all excellently signposted.

The highlight of this tour is the alpine meadow just above the Gschnagenhardt Alm. The Adolf Munkel path leads directly under the Geisler Puez towers, which is easy but incredibly spectacular.
The tour is well known so you have to get there early.
A very narrow road leads from St. Magdalena to the Zanser Alm - 8€ parking lot and …
