Hiking

This short circular route is almost a walk and leads up to the Schwarzenberg with its chapel and the military cemetery. “14 neo-Gothic station pictures with beautiful depictions as sandstone reliefs line this scenic path,” which I like very much, Willi Basalt tells you. The inscription on the old wooden cross in front of the chapel reads: “Cross of Peace. Protect our Eifel people and our homeland with your might. Help us in every need. " "It wasn't always easy, life." Willi speaks softly. “Let's walk on past the old oak. This oak was surgically treated many years ago and is estimated to be around 330 years old. "

The starting point of this short hike is also the first stop on the history route. Because the market square in Kelberg has a historical meaning and tells the story of the appointment of Kelberg as a market village in 1795. You leave the place and stroll on the nearby Schwarzenberg. Up there is a small pilgrimage chapel dedicated to the painful Mother of God. Nearby is a memorial for those who died in the First and Second World Wars.

Your path continues across the fields towards Zermüllen. You will always find benches along the way, which invite you to take a break with a view of the idyllic hilly landscape of the Eifel. Shortly before Zermüllen there is a pedunculate oak that is over 300 years old and was declared a natural monument in 1940. From Zermüllen you walk back over the fields to your starting point.

Pilgrimage Chapel of the Sorrowful Mother of God on Schwarzenberg

Highlight • Religious Site

On the 562 meter high Schwarzenberg, hidden in the forest, there is a chapel dedicated to the painful Mother of God. The Schwarzenberg Chapel was built in 1719. The altar with the Pietà in the middle is framed by Saints Aloisius (right) and Augustine.

Thank you boards and crutches on the walls indicate that the Schwarzenberg Mother of God was called on when she was sick and helped. Next to the chapel is the Heroes Cemetery with the graves of soldiers who perished in Kelberg in World War II, and a little below the memorial for soldiers who died in World War I and II.

Old Pedunculate Oak Near Zermüllen

Highlight • Natural Monument

An old pedunculate oak stands here, which has been designated a natural monument since 1940. The oak must have emerged from a seed around 1670. This type of oak can live between 600 and 800 years. So the "lady" will certainly complain if you call her "old" because she is still just in her "prime".

The market square in Kelberg is a place of historical importance, because in 1795 Kelberg was named a market village. This had a legal meaning at the time, because it gave the place the right to hold markets and was considered a step towards elevation to the city. At that time Kelberg had an elevated position.

Today you will find some information boards here about the history route that starts here, the Eifelsteig and other hiking and cycling routes as well as general information about the Kelberger Land.

This circular route begins in Kelberg at the market square and we have added it to the circular route Secret Nature and Life because we haven't had enough of hiking in the snow. This small circular route begins with a beautiful Stations of the Cross, inaugurated in 1864. At the end of the 14 neo-Gothic wayside shrines, a chapel from …
