Hiking

The starting point of the hike is the train station in the health resort Rathen or the parking lot (on the left bank of the Elbe). The historic Gierseilfähre takes us across the Elbe. In the village we branch off to the left between the houses into the Amselgrund and reach the Amselsee in a short time.

This idyllic, dammed lake lies between steep, overgrown slopes and rocks.
A special experience, especially on hot summer days, a boat trip on the Amselsee with a wonderful rocky backdrop is u. a. made of a locomotive, lamb, stork's nest and valley guard.

At the end of the lake, turn right over the Höllgrund (green line), Pionierweg (green line) and the junction path that turns right (not marked in color) into the Koppelsgrund. Here we turn left onto the Füllholzelweg (red line) and shortly afterwards right up to the Gamrig (not marked in color).

After the short and steep ascent, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view: the Elbe Valley lies at our feet, Stadt Wehlen, Pirna, the fortress Königstein, the Lilienstein, behind them the Schrammsteine and the Bohemian Switzerland. Caution: In contrast to most viewpoints, there are no railings! The originality of the weathered sandstone peak with the all-round view should be preserved.

Back from the summit it goes down the same way. Before we start our way back, it is worth making a detour to the nearby Gamrig Cave. For the way back we choose the way back to Rathen (Aspichgraben) which branches off to the right just before the road.

The tour is suitable for children. Warning: there is no railing on the Gamrig!
Suitability for dogs: no

Rathen

Highlight • Settlement

The spa town of Rathen is a tourist magnet due to its unique location on the Elbe, the rock stage and the scenic attractions all around. From here you can reach, among other things, the Bastei, the Amselsee, the Schwedenlöcher, Gamrig, the Uttewalder Grund, the Schleifgrund. Or over the Hockstein down the brutal Wolfsschlucht into the beautiful Polenztal and up to the Brandbaude. There is something for everyone.

The Amselsee impresses with its romantic and hidden location on the edge of the spa Rathen. The Niederrathener rocks, which tower high above the Amselsee, offer a great backdrop to the Amselsee. In winter, the Amselsee is often visited by skaters.

You can get to the Gamrig quite quickly, also suitable for inexperienced hikers. You should be sure-footed, as there are no railings on the plateau. So be careful with smaller children. However, the all-round view is terrific.

October 31, 2021,Gamrig – ab Rathen am Amselsee entlang
I had never heard or read Gamrig before, although this vantage point is so close to Rathen - THE starting point of the tourist highlight Bastei. This circular route, found again on the side of the Saxon Switzerland National Park, is a relaxed forest circuit past the Amselsee, with the final highlight Gamrig. And it's really really great up there. …

To warm up 😉 we took a lovely hike from Rathen. There were still lots of visitors at Amselgrund, but afterward, it was wonderfully quiet. The view from Gamrig was a reward.

The first pain-free hike after more than half a year 🤣🤣🤣🤣😎🌞♥️

At sunrise on the Gamrig, a nice New Year's round to relax.

I spent the beautiful autumn day again in Saxon Switzerland. Such colorful fall foliage! Some trees have green, yellow and brown leaves at the same time! 😁 Beautiful what nature conjures up!
