Hiking

Your hike on the Teufelssteig trail begins in Lautenbach. Shortly after the train station, you'll enter the countryside – along quiet paths, you'll come across the first of five lovingly tended fountains. The Josefsbrünnele invites you to take a short breather before climbing up into the mystical part of the forest, known locally as "Little America" because of the impressive Douglas firs. The hike continues to the Neuenstein ruins, which, with their location and history, are a fascinating and highly recommended place.

You'll soon reach the Otschenfeldhof farm, where you can refresh yourself with cool drinks and a beautiful view at the Teufelsschuppen (Devil's Shed). Finally, you'll walk down narrow paths to Benny's Ranch, where animal encounters provide a bit of variety. From there, you'll hike back to Lautenbach train station along beautiful trails with magnificent viewpoints.

Ruins of Neuenstein Castle

Highlight • Castle

The ruin is manageable. Time and weather have ensured that no particularly impressive relic exists anymore. Visitors should be prepared for this and have a lot of imagination.

Open plateau with views to the west over Staufenberg Castle (Durbach) into the Upper Rhine Valley toward Strasbourg, and to the east toward the refuge and Buchkopf Tower.

A place to linger in the sun. With benches and a table for a rest. Beautiful.

Not an easy tour, at least for me. The altitude difference is tough...when you think it's almost over...then there's another climb. Devilish...😉but there are several beautiful views.

A hike that certainly lives from its refreshment stations and the viewpoints. Unfortunately, there was high fog in the Rhine plain, so the view was rather modest, but if the weather plays along, there are definitely some great views along the way...

Walked the Teufelsteig for the first time today. Nice tour, but the first 6 km to Otschenfeld were 🥵. Whether that's due to the weather or just my condition, I can't say 😅.
There are three very nice seating and rest areas with drinks station on the second half - view included 😃

Could have been called "Brunnensteig" for the first few kilometers 🙄

I have wanted to go to the Grosser Schärtenkopf for a while, which is a bit off the marked hiking trails. For the outward and return journey, I took the Lautenbacher Teufelsteig route, which leads past the Schärtenkopfhütte. From here it is about 500 m to the Grosser Schärtenkopf. There is a metal railing with two boards on top that …

Today we had to choose between the Mooskopf Tower and the Lautenbach Devil's Trail. We ended up in Lautenbach. We briefly considered doing the Mara Ladybug Adventure Trail 🐞, but then decided on the Devil's Trail.

All in all, it was quite cool, but dry. Unfortunately, three-quarters of the trail consisted of forest paths, which were rather boring. We had …

Hi everyone,

After quickly vacuuming the lower level this morning and preparing the camper for my first night, I drove to the start of today's hike.

I headed to Lautenbach to hike the Lautenbach Devil's Trail 😈😁. It was a beautiful hike. The pictures pretty much say it all.
