Hiking
The Blies River marks the border between Germany and France near Bliesgersweiler, before flowing into the Saar shortly thereafter. On this approximately 15-kilometer circular tour, you'll follow the Blies River for a portion of the border. You'll hike along the shady edge of the forest, through the green floodplain, and across lush pastures and flowering meadows on the edge of the Bliesgau UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
The passages over the hills repeatedly offer fantastic views all the way to the Vosges Mountains. Adventurous paths through enchanted ruins and overgrown parks of former bourgeois estates lead you to sun-drenched slopes where wine was once cultivated on the Upper Saar.
The Blies Border Trail offers something for every taste. With refreshment stops and the invitation to take a detour into neighboring France, the Blies Border Trail delivers on a Saarland promise: boundless charm.
You can easily reach the starting point with the Biosphere Bus 501. Alternatively, you can take the Saarbahn, Line 1, to Kleinblittersdorf and join the route there.

The (half) day tour on the border along the Blies with wide + narrow meadow + forest paths is very varied 🏞👌. In particular, the views over the Bliesgau to the Vosges ⛰ are great. The passage restrictions😬 were successfully ignored, which turned out to be good. But …

The path is strenuous in parts of the ascents and descents - a good level of fitness is required - it is moderately difficult. It goes over meadows, forest paths and trails, which are often rocky and muddy, even in dry weather - waterproof and non-slip hiking boots are …
