The famous Rhine and the foothills of the Rheinhessen hills characterize this circular tour, which gets its name from a former railway line. It once ran between Alzey and Bodenheim, today a wonderful cycle path runs along its route.
You start in Bodenheim and dive directly into the landscape shaped by vineyards and fields. Even though the path is mostly flat, amazing panoramic views repeatedly open up above your handlebars. In Harxheim, the first section of the former railway line begins, leading you to Selzen. You then cycle along flat farm tracks to Friesenheim, where the second wonderful section of the railway line awaits you.
Afterwards, you reach the Rhine near Nierstein. The last few kilometers back to the starting point are truly dreamlike, with views of the Rhine Terrace slopes opposite the Rhine Valley: you will pass famous vineyards such as the Roter Hang, named after the actual reddish soil. A detour into the historic town centers of Nierstein and Nackenheim is also worthwhile.

Where Konrad Adenauer traveled by train in 1957, you can now cycle there, without any major climbs.
