The circular hike around Furusund offers a gentle walk through classic archipelago landscape. The island’s west coast provides a great vantage point to watch large cruise ships passing along the deep waters of Furusundsleden.
Although this stage isn’t marked with SAT signage, much of the route follows local red markings, and hiking clockwise around the island offers the best experience. This compact stage allows you to enjoy a relaxed meal or a sauna at Hotel Furusund. The period guesthouse at Villa Dagmar provides a unique alternative for overnight stays.
Furusund is well-connected, especially in summer. The north–south ferry line runs two daily sailings between Lidö and Furusund, along with a more frequent service onward to Köpmanholm on Yxlan — the next stage of the trail. A summer ferry trip from Stockholm is also possible via Vaxholm. The road bridge offers year-round access to Furusund, with SL buses running from Norrtälje.
The Stockholm Archipelago Trail (SAT) is a waymarked hiking trail that connects over 20 islands, accessible by a public ferry network. You can choose to spend a day at a time on the trail, connect nearby islands in conveniently grouped sections, or hike the SAT as a thru-hike for the full experience.
