The best thing to do for this route is to have a gear that allows you to confidently tackle the steepest sections. The steepness of the winding roads and their hairpin bends won't give you a single meter without effort. However, the scenic rewards that await you are worth every drop of sweat.
The route begins at one of the several parking lots found in the small fishing port of Garachico and its surroundings. The climb to El Tanque immediately begins. It's a steep succession of winding curves that offer stunning views of the banana plantations with the sea in the background.
Halfway through the route, you pass through Santiago del Teide. This town is the natural mountain pass between north and south. It's also a vibrant commercial crossroads where you have multiple options for taking a culinary break and recharging your batteries.
After a short climb, the thrilling descent to Masca awaits, along a narrow and winding road. If you think you're strong enough to climb it, you can reverse the route.
The descent takes you back to the coast, and from Buenavista, the return to the start is flatter and more pleasant along a pleasant road between banana plantations. Back in Garachico, take the opportunity to swim in the sea and eat delicious fresh fish.
