Observation tower in the Oppenweher Moor

Highlight • Viewpoint

The birdwatching platform offers a good, sheltered view of the "Oppenweher Moor" nature reserve. Accessible via a low-barrier staircase with anti-slip strips and a round stainless steel handrail, you can even spot cranes here in autumn.

From April to June, countless white, fluffy woolly tufts move gently in the wind. These are the seed heads of the cotton grass, which form after the actual flowering.

Sheep maintain the moor in areas inaccessible to machinery. From April to October, the shepherd takes 600 to 700 animals into the Oppenweher Moor, keeping the core area of the moor clear of emerging woody vegetation.

How lucky to have been here!
Wide country, tranquil nature. Peaceful and still. Only the cuckoo with its monotonous singing could be heard.
A hiking trail with only natural paths. Soft and extremely pleasant to walk on peat.
Be sure to rub insect repellent before the hike. Otherwise the beasts will suck you dry in wooded areas 😉

Peace and tranquility accompanies us on the way. This moor looks different again. The paths are clearly signposted.
The highlight is the bird watching stand and/or the boardwalk.
The renaturation appears to be well advanced. The heavy rain in autumn did something about it.

Today I had to get out a little earlier, and since the weather was much better than the day before yesterday, I chose a slightly longer tour for us.

The Oppenweher moor landscape is always a pleasure. The nice thing is that you can hike for kilometers through the nature reserve, and not just two hectares of nature trails and …

Started very early today. I really wanted fog and there was plenty of it in the Oppenweher Moor. I sunk a few thoughts into the moor and returned home with more perspective. Great light, silence and awakening geese and cranes who have discussed their plans for the winter.

Cotton grass and frog singing - 9.7 KM round trip in the Oppenweher Moor. Also in summer a special round and completely different than in winter. It was like a day at the sea. The cuckoo called beautifully all the time.

A really nice lunch break. Around and through the moor. The planned 8 km became almost 10 because one path was closed. This vastness, this silence, sunshine and wind, it was soooo beautiful. Unfortunately, the moor is totally dried up 😪

What a wonderful piece of earth
Fantastic natural country lanes....2x a piece of wooden plank path.....super easy to walk
Great foresight
Heavenly rest...
Quite different from, for example, the large peat bog
The Oppenweher Moor looks much more natural....much more "moory".....much more often there are water areas directly near the path...you stay on the path voluntarily
I really noticed that …

Once again it shows: the old wisdom that every place looks different at different times is true. Now we can only confirm that in the Oppenweher Moor in autumn.
