The banks of the Ognon

This pleasant loop invites you to discover the peaceful charm of the Ognon Valley. Here, the hills disappear into forest trails and quiet little roads. From the start in Rougemont, you'll be immersed in a lush green setting between ponds, forests, and rivers.

You'll discover the Moulin de Montferney, now a residential building. The Montagney Forge, established in the 17th century, reveals traces of the old iron industry, then fueled by the nearby forests.

Crossing the Ognon, you'll come across the dam and the remains of Rougemont Castle: all that remains of the medieval building are a few stones, used for the construction of the hydraulic structure. Finally, crossing the hamlet of Chazelot, with its traditional houses, offers a beautiful rural interlude before returning to the river.

The yellow and blue trail markers are clearly marked along the route. Be careful of herds and avoid walking with a dog. Also, be careful not to walk this trail in rain or flooding.
