Aischgründer Bierrunde – cycle Tours in Franconia's multi-region

The Aischgrund is known for its brewing and beer tradition. Along the Aischgründer Bierrunde you will find many breweries, typical Franconian inns and beer gardens that invite you to take a breather with their very special specialties.

A good starting point is the market square in the district town of Neustadt an der Aisch, which you can easily reach from Mitte train station. From there the route runs northeast out of town, past the Kohlenmühle brewery via Diespeck to Pahres. The Hofmann family has been brewing typically Franconian beer here for eleven generations. The family-run Windsheimer brewery is located in neighboring Gutenstetten, and you can taste their tasty beer right next door in the Radlertreff.

From Gutenstetten it goes comfortably north through the Steinachgrund to Münchsteinach, with the former Benedictine abbey and Romanesque cathedral. In addition to traditional Franconian beers, the Loscher brewery also brews a wheat beer pilsner and produces the non-alcoholic, caffeinated cult drink “Club Mate”. The beer circuit then takes you out to Neuebersbach before continuing along the Weisach to Uehlfeld. With the Zwanzger and Prechtel breweries you will find two family-run breweries in Uehlfeld.

A little further south is the idyllic Voggendorfer Keller. You drive via the towns of Dachsbach, where there is a beautiful moated castle, and Birnbaum, along ponds and forests to Kästel and over the pond chains near Sinntmannsbuch to Oberreichenbach. It's always worth taking a detour to the rock cellar of the Geyer brewery. From Ebersdorf, the tour takes you comfortably downhill to Wilhelmsdorf, with its circle museum, and Emskirchen, where you can visit a local museum before you tackle a final climb to the Rennhofen beer garden. You then roll downhill back to the gourmet resort of Neustadt an der Aisch.

Münchsteinach

Highlight • Religious Site

The Münchsteinach Monastery is a former Benedictine monastery in Münchsteinach in Bavaria in the Diocese of Würzburg.

The monastery, dedicated to St. Nicholas, was founded by the noble lords of Steinach in 1102. The bailiwick of the monastery passed to the Burgraves of Nuremberg and later Margraves of Brandenburg via King Konradin in 1265 at the latest. The church and monastery were partially destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525. The monastery was dissolved in 1529 during the Reformation. Münchsteinach became a margrave's monastery office, which existed until 1792.

The monastery church was restored to its original condition through an extensive renovation between 1965 and 1970. The original colors from the time it was built around 1180 were uncovered on the pillars of the basilica. A depiction of a saint from this period is particularly impressive.

Brauerei Prechtel

Highlight • Pub

The Prechtel brewery offers a sparkling wheat beer in its inn all year round, namely the "Schmankerl Weisse", a yeast-clouded cellar beer, the "Schnapperla" and a tasty "Hopfenstoff". There is also a special drink on festive days, a strong beer during Lent and the festival beer at Kirchweih and Christmas. Another special feature is the home brewery, where everyone can have their own barrels filled with an unfiltered special beer after registering. The small brewery inn also attracts visitors with delicious Franconian dishes. Worth mentioning here are the venison and of course the Aischfounder carp, the specialty of the region.

What can I say, if you don't know your way around the Aischgrund, you shouldn't rely on the signs.🤨
The tour itself leads through a fantastic area, along beautiful paths, but the original route is a bit incomprehensible. So I adjusted them a bit. The Obstgärtla in Linden is not on the signposted route, but instead you cycle along the …
