What is the terrain like on this trail?

The terrain on the Oxögabergsrundan is highly varied and can be challenging. You'll encounter natural paths and smaller forest roads, traversing moss-covered spruce forests, marshy valleys, barren rocky areas, and typical capercaillie forests. Sure-footedness is required due to the diverse and sometimes difficult ground.

Is the Oxögabergsrundan a loop trail?

The trail also passes by several small, characteristic brown-water lakes such as Trollkyrkosjön Lake and Metesjön Lake.

What is the best time of year to hike this trail?

The best time to hike this trail is generally during the spring, summer, and early autumn months when the weather is milder and the paths are clearer. While winter hiking is possible, be prepared for snow and ice, which can make the already challenging terrain even more demanding. Always check local conditions before you go.

August 21, 2021, Oxögabergsrundan, Tiveden National Park

The Oxögabergsrundan (6.7 km) is one of the nine trails in the Tiveden National Park in Sweden and the second most difficult after the Trehörningsrundan (9.5 km) that I walked earlier. This loop walk takes you through the primeval forests of Tiveden, past marshes and idyllic lakes, over millions of years old dramatic rocks and cliffs and through a gorge valley called the Stigmanspasset. There are 10 different hiking routes in Tivedens National Park. We were here two years ago in August and hiked the red route. 😉This time we decided on the blue route. Nature is amazing. Quote from Sveriges National Parkers: The dramatic landscape of Tiveden was gradually formed over a very long period of time. The checkerboard-like rift valley landscape was created a thousand million years ago when the mountains broke apart due to movements of the continental plates. This is also where the deep rift valley of Lake Vättern was created. The hike seems unspectacular, but it was still a challenge. Jungle, stones, roots, uphill and downhill. It was a good idea not to take your eyes off the path. All in all, a great tour and a reason to come back.

This was a tough round through the Tiveden nature reserve. A very beautiful @kleine 7 kilometers through forest, peat, over steep ridges and boulders. Which took us about 4 hours in total. Komoot's elevation profile does not give a good impression of the many steep climbs and descents we had. The last photo with the height profile as indicated in the park is a better impression of this calf-biting route. (The Apple Health app also indicates that this route corresponds to an 11 km walking route in which you have walked up and down stairs 53 floors.)

A nice hike with a lot of up and down. A bit demanding. Great national park.

In Tiveden National Park 🏞️ there are so many fantastic hiking tours that it is difficult to choose.

Tiveden National Park, located between the large lakes, is definitely worth one or even several visits. We chose the blue route from the main entrance. At the information point, you can get good information about the various trails, as well as about the flora and fauna. And now, a matter close to my heart: I keep seeing tissues or even toilet paper lying behind bushes in the forest and in nature. Everyone has to pee sometimes, but why do people just leave tissues or something similar there?!?! It looks unsightly, doesn't go away quickly, and endangers the animals! My tip: Just take a small bag with you (e.g., a dog poop bag or a freezer bag), put your tissues in it, and throw the whole thing in the nearest trash can or in the trash can at home! I've been doing this for years. I sometimes prepare a small bag for myself, so I don't leave anything unsightly in nature and feel good about it.

The time is not correct again, it was at least 4 hours, but very worthwhile

For me it is still the most beautiful national park in Sweden. The red ones are just gorgeous and you think every moment a troll comes out from under a stone. Tip: don't forget your swimwear.
