Lake Lauenen, the famous and celebrated gem at the end of the Louwene Valley, beckons for a leisurely mountain bike ride. There are a few meters of elevation gain, but back there, far from the noise of the city, these will surely be quickly forgotten.
It only takes a few turns of the pedal to reach the narrow entrance to the tranquil Louwene Valley. Now at the Louwibach stream, you follow it to Lauenen. After riding through the many traditional wooden houses, there is a short, somewhat steeper section, but this is rewarded with the arrival of the unique Lake Lauenen. A stop at the restaurant with a lake view is definitely worth it to take in the scenery at the end of the valley for a while longer.
On the descent back to Lauenen, you ride through the Rohr nature reserve, which, with its lowland moors, is also very worth seeing. From Lauenen, the route returns to Gstaad on the same route, but this time at a faster pace thanks to the downhill ride.
