Your circular tour begins at the picturesque, over 120-year-old train station building in Saanen. You climb up the asphalt road into the narrow, wooded Grischbach Valley, where the stream of the same name marks the cantonal border between Bern and Vaud. With plenty of power on your pedals, you ascend along a quiet country road into the increasingly alpine landscape to the 1,633-meter-high Mittelberg Pass.
You pedal up a few more bends, and then the long, scenic descent begins. First, you head over lush green meadow singletrack to the Rellerligrat, where the view of the Bernese Alps is breathtakingly beautiful. A short stop here is definitely worth it before the fast-paced gravel road takes you back to Saanen.
Although there are no refreshment stops along the way, the beautiful village center of Saanen, with its traditional and ornate wooden houses, is tempting to visit before or after the tour.
