Road cycling

You'll cross two of Switzerland's highest passes on the 150-kilometer Starter Triple Loop. The final three climbs are the Tremola, arguably the most beautiful Alpine road in Switzerland. Look forward to 3,000 meters of elevation gain in the saddle.

Your day's adventure begins with a pleasant climb through the wide Urseren Valley. You'll warm up nicely through the green meadow slopes all the way to Realp, before things really get going. First, tight switchbacks quickly take you uphill, then you'll bite into the long, sun-drenched slopes up to 2,436 meters. On the descent into Valais, a photo at the picturesque Hotel Belvédère is a must.

The short flat section through Obergoms will help you find your rhythm again. It's essential, because the western slope of the Nufenen is next. Through the increasingly bizarre high alpine landscape, you battle your way up steeply to 2,477 meters. There, you grab the brakes and take in the view of the beautiful, rocky-green Val Bedretto. With your legs refreshed, you tackle the 24 hairpin bends of the Tremola from Airolo. The racing biker's heart will pound, and not just because of the gradient!

Furka Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The Furkapasshöhe is at 2,436 meters and is a popular destination for hikers, cyclists and drivers. Not far is the Hotel Furkablick, which has seen its prime, is slowly decaying and yet remains a charming photo motif. There is currently a bus stop there.

Wonderful old hotel building that is unfortunately closed, but with a gigantic view. The hotel is right on the curve of the pass road. Greetings from James Bond.

Nufenen Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The Nufenen Pass is at an altitude of 2,480 meters, making it the highest Alpine pass in Switzerland. Among cyclists it is considered one of the toughest. The restaurant is particularly interesting for hikers, where they can have a bite to eat and the brilliant view of the Griesgletscher.

First tight hairpin bends of the Tremola

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The famous Tremola, with its 24 switchbacks, is a must for every road cyclist. With good basic training, a few meters of climbing under your belt, and gears suitable for mountain climbing, it's also doable for mere mortals. Yes, you do have to mentally prepare yourself for a good hour of uphill riding at an average speed of 10 km/h (or faster, depending on your fitness). But the suffering is definitely worth it. Once you've made it through the lower half, it just keeps getting better. You'll be greeted by the beautiful, slightly less steep switchbacks, and you'll see what lies ahead. It's a wonderful sight. Smile and ride on!

Very nice, but also strenuous tour over 3 Swiss Alpine passes. If you like driving passes, you must have done it

Slept badly, chaotic train journey (instead of 3:48 and one change, 4:48 and 3 changes), but from Göschenen onwards everything was great!

Basically a tradition for me. But be sure to ride it once yourself as well. If you need company, gimme a shout.
Wonderful weather, great ambiance as thousands took part cycling the passes from Andermatt
With three legendary passes that regularly feature on the Tour de Suisse programme, the Furka-Nufenen-Gotthard loop is an Alpine classic for cycling enthusiasts. It is only 100 kilometres long, but it should not be underestimated: with almost 40 kilometres of ascent, climbing is a big chunk of the ride.
I took the Gran Tour today and had a great day 🇨🇭🚵😀

... finally the Alps! Start and finish in Andermatt ... a short altitude check up to the Furkapass - first of all very easy ... and you are promptly overtaken by the biathletes. The incline is challenging, but manageable. Shot down ... wind, brakes, downhill slope ... great surface to the Grimsel, and then to the Nufenen entrance after the …

I also rode this ride with 3 alpine climbs together with my bike buddy Rob de Jonge, but in reverse. It was beastly tough but gave an euphoric feeling when the ride was over. A great pity that Rob passed away in 2022.
