Hiking

This hike pays tribute to an important battle. It allows you to delve into the history of this region and better understand the presence of the numerous remains and memorials along the trails. The route passes through the battlefield of Frœschwiller-Wœrth and connects several monuments such as the Elsasshausen Memorial Tower.

The route is relatively flat and the landscape is very open. You'll walk through a very open landscape with sweeping views of the plain and the northern Vosges Mountains in the background. The route is very accessible, so you can combine it with a visit to Woerth. We suggest a walk around the castle and possibly a visit to the 1870 Battle of Woerth Museum.

The start is at the large parking lot at the northern entrance to Woerth. You can also drive there and leave it for the day while you enjoy your walk.

Frœschwiller is a remarkable village in many ways. Its castle, its church, and its narrow streets lined with colorful half-timbered houses are all worth a visit.

Known to history as the Battle of Reichshoffen, it was actually the Battle of Froeschwiller. This memorial commemorates the soldiers who fell during this battle, famous for a series of charges by French cuirassiers (heavy cavalry).

August 28, 2024,#6. Woerth-Froeschweiler 248; ein Stück deutsch-französische Geschichte
Woerth - a charming little town in northern Alsace, but one with a fair amount of German-French history. One of the first and also one of the bloodiest battles of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 took place here. The Museum of the Battle of 6 August 1870 (Musée de la Bataille du 6 août 1870) and a circular path through …
