We drove towards Worbis to hike another TOP trail there. And it was worth it again 😀. We could park at the entrance to the bear park 🐻, the parking lot was also frequented by families today. Initially, we walked past many information boards about animal and species protection. It steadily went uphill over gravel paths to the tomb of the Counts of Wintzingerode (completed in 1821 by Count Georg Ernst Levin von Wintzingerode). Afterwards, we reached the Bodenstein Castle 🏰, which has towered over the rooftops of Wintzigerode for over 900 years. Concerts, exhibitions, and guided tours still take place in the castle. Another highlight is the Kanstein, a 30m high rock face made of shell limestone, from which the entire Ohmgebirge mountain range is also composed. From the Kanstein, a great view opens up onto the Hahletal valley. It was very stormy 🌬️, but it stayed dry.
From the parking lot at the Glasshouse, the path continued uphill to Bodenstein Castle. The climb was quite challenging in this weather. After a short rest in the castle courtyard, we walked back over the Bornberg hill through an ancient hornbeam avenue.
Along the "Bodenstein Castle" hiking trail, I immersed myself in the history of the Counts of Wintzingerode. The Katharinenquelle spring, nestled in the wild garlic forest, and the countless liverworts conjured up a magical springtime atmosphere. The burial sites and Bodenstein Castle provided the historical context. And the Kanstein rock formation and the Gelbe Klippe (Yellow Cliff) offered stunning views. A beautiful hike that I highly recommend.
According to the pedometers of both participants, it was 12.1 km - we made a little detour to Bodenstein Castle. It was always "up and down" - a great round with beautiful views in crisp winter temperatures.
We took a leisurely walk in the Eichsfeld to the castle 🏰 Bodenstein and from there the circular route. Great scenery and the path was really well signposted. In Worbis we just crossed the road and took the bear park. It wasn't the longest route but the landscape was inviting for a stroll. There was a lot to discover, the princely graves in the middle of the forest, the small cliffs and the spring, very beautiful 👍😊.
This was another fantastic hiking trail. Through the shady forest with a gentle breeze, the scent of wild garlic, the chirping of birds, and some good conversations with other friendly hikers.
