Hiking

Creux du Van – a spectacular horseshoe-shaped rock amphitheater you won't soon forget! This impressive natural formation in the Swiss Jura is the highlight of a challenging but rewarding hike. From Noiraigue train station, you'll step directly into the rugged landscape and follow the famous "Sentier des 14 Contours" (Trail of 14 Contours).

The steep ascent with its 14 switchbacks will test your fitness, but once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view. The sheer rock faces of Creux du Van drop dramatically, while the wide valley and surrounding mountain ranges unfold before you. Keep your eyes peeled – with a bit of luck, you might spot ibex, chamois, or marmots in their natural habitat.

After a well-deserved break, the "Sentier du Single" (Trail of the Single) leads back to Noiraigue. Before heading home, a stop at the Ferme Robert mountain inn is highly recommended, where you can enjoy regional specialties.

Ferme Robert

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Ferme Robert mountain inn, built in 1750 at the foot of the Creux du Van, is at an altitude of 972 meters. It is the ideal stopover on the way to Creux du Van. In addition to the indoor area, there are large tables and a playground outside as well as an enclosure with goats. Children will find great opportunities to play there. There is a tourist accommodation about 50 meters from Ferme Robert.

Short but intense route. breathtaking views, Had lunch at an excellent restaurant.

Very beautiful. A must-do. Bring a windbreaker. The tour is a bit more difficult on wet ground.

The descent was really slippery. But wonderful tour.

We cycled up from Noiraigue to Ferme Robert because we wanted to avoid the tedious ascent and descent. A good decision. A beautiful hike, first steeply uphill through the forest, followed by a fantastic view of Lake Biel and Lake Neuchâtel, the Creux du Van cliffs, and the plateau on the other side. The return journey then goes through the forest, but with a nice gentle descent. There are several places to stop for refreshments. There are plenty of paid parking spaces in Noiraigue.

The starting point of the hike is the train station in Noiraigue. From here the path leads past a farm (possibility to take a break) over 14 hairpin bends ("Sentier des 14 Contours") up to 1382 m. We continue along the Creux du Van. Finally, the route leads back to the starting point in a loop.🥾🌫️🏔️ Parking🅿️: Parking available at Noiraigue train station.

Had to run to catch the train and only realized after a few minutes that I hadn't stopped the recording yet 😉

Cool hike. Unfortunately the Creux du Van was partly in the fog. Very strong wind, felt 10 degrees colder. Better to leave your toupee at home. 😂
