Beautiful snow hike in Krün near Mittenwald in glorious sunshine 🌞 👍👍🍺

Today's torchlight hike took place in Krün and took almost 2 1/4 hours. This time it was a pure hike without a stop. We started at 5:00 p.m. in daylight and went along the Isar to the Isar reservoir. There were always stops where our guide told us something about the Isar, the country and the people. Half way, when it got dark, the torches were lit and we went back to Krün along snow-covered paths along the Isar!
Beautiful circular hiking trail. Suitable for everyone. Very educational with lots of information.
Short walk before visiting the Christmas market in Mittenwald. I actually had better memories of the latter 😏
The Walchensee power plant has been generating electricity for 100 years, also with water from the Isar. But where is the water "stolen" from the Isar? The Isar nature adventure trail passes the Isar reservoir near Krün, where Isar water is channeled into the Obernach canal to Walchensee. We start at a hiking car park near the banks of the Isar and cross the bridge to the other side of the river. The path leads into the forest past many information boards about the regional flora and fauna. You cross the Isar at the Isar reservoir and the tributary. Here the path passes the dam with its fish ladder. The dam diverts Isar water into the Obernach canal and into Walchensee, which is the water reservoir for the power plant. A minimum amount of water is released into the Isar. The amount of water is so low in the dry seasons that a new, interesting river landscape with many gravel banks is formed.
Very nice tour for families with children, there is always something to discover there are 25 different signs along the way with many stations to join in or to enjoy a beautiful view. The children can often play in the Isar. Small tip you can also walk the way over the adventure playground (raftsman's playground) a really cool place with a small snack.
A leisurely hike along the Isar to the Isar reservoir in Krün.
