The Goat Creek Trail takes you through a scenic section of the iconic Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. The trail takes you through fragrant coniferous forest along rushing rivers and streams and is less crowded than the Legacy Trail, but just as impressive.
You start at a parking lot very close to Canmore. Mainly downhill, the trail winds along the lively Goat Creek, crossing several smaller streams over rustic wooden bridges. After about nine kilometers, you roll over the wild Spray River and follow its course to the southern edge of Banff.
In this well-known town in the heart of the national park of the same name, you can refuel with snacks and drinks. Unless you have someone to pick you up from this end of the Goat Creek Trail, you'll return the same way – mostly uphill.
