Njupeskär Waterfall and Njupån Stream

Highlight (Segment) • Waterfall

In the middle of Fulufjäll National Park lies Sweden's highest waterfall, Njupeskär. There is no road leading there, and no tourist buses bring the masses there. Only those who undertake a short hike can observe this natural spectacle in all seasons. On the way between the visitor center and the waterfall, you pass a small rest hut from which you can already see the waterfall. In winter, it freezes over completely and sometimes you can even see ice climbers.

Njupeskär Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

Sweden's highest waterfall measures just 93m with a drop of 70m. Nestled in the Fulufjället National Park, founded in 2002, you can visit it surrounded by wild Swedish nature. In summer, a hiking trail leads from the Visitor Center, in winter you can follow it with snowshoes. In winter, the waterfall freezes completely and transforms into a huge turquoise-blue icefall - a spectacular sight!

Between the 1st of December and the 31st of March ice climbing is also possible at the frozen waterfall. You can pitch your tent in the parking lot.

View of Fulufjället National Park

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

The view from the back of Fulufjäll over the expanse of Dalarna and the Fulufjäll National Park is really breathtaking. In summer, the dark green forests extend to the horizon. In winter, the landscape is covered by a thick blanket of snow, immersed in the warm winter sun of Scandinavia. The steep ascent here is worthwhile both seasons. In winter, you should be well prepared for wind and cold, because up here on the Fjäll pulls neat on some days!

This hike is absolutely fantastic, but very strenuous, as the "path" leads almost entirely over scree. The view, however, makes it all worthwhile.

Definitely sturdy shoes, the route goes over hill and dale

Back to Fulufjället, we did this round last year aswell, the path has new marking (orange paint) there was still snow on the path up to the waterfall like last year (to delight of the dogs) and on top it was still a bath of rocks to walk on. The waterfall itself was rather low in water. The view is …
Very difficult to walk after it's rained. The stones are extremely slippery!

wow, wow, wow

Breathtaking landscape, fascinating Njupeskär waterfall (with the highest free fall height of 70m, the largest in Sweden, so to speak), Old Tjikko (the oldest tree on earth, even if it doesn't look like it in terms of size), this hike is simply stunning.

Showing Translation

Loop above the waterfall to Old Tjikko and via bridge over the inflow of the waterfall. Difficult in places over very rough scree.

Today we decided to visit the Fulufjället NP. It was pouring rain. But we didn't want to wait for a gap in the clouds and just started walking. ...There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad gear 😉

Today we stopped at Fulufjället National Park on our way to northern Sweden. At first the rain slowed us down, but armed with rain gear we started hiking. The risk of getting wet was worth it, the weather god was lenient, the sun even came out 🌞. We then decided to hike the big round trip, so we tackled Sweden's …
