April 29, 2024, 🇨🇿 🇵🇱 Neue Schlesische Baude - Panoramaweg Hochmoor

Our hike in the Silesian Sudetenland takes us to Szklarska Poreba/Schreiberhau. A steep climb past the Schreiberhaus winter sports center takes us to the 26-meter-high Zackelfall. How romantic. Wearing a helmet is mandatory before descending into the gorge. As the wearer of the red helmet, Ute promptly crowned me Little Red Riding Hood😂. And then we continue towards the Neue Schlesische Baude at the Reifträger Alm, located at 1200 m. A real challenge for me as a flatland hiker. The hut's predecessor was a shepherd's hut built in 1787. From up here there is a fantastic view over the Hirschberger Valley and the Jizera Mountains. Beautiful! After a short rest, we climb up to the Reifträger. Here, too, the hiker is overwhelmed by the view of the surroundings, which are still partly covered in snow. The sun does a great job and lets the meltwater rush down the valley along our paths. In a few days the mountain range will probably be free of snow. We pass the Sausteine and turn onto the panoramic path over the raised moor. What can I say: A delight for hikers, just because of the views of the valley and the surrounding mountains. Snow fields cross our ridge path, which otherwise runs along wooden and stone paths. This feeds the child in us 😉 - throwing snowballs in spring-like temperatures...The hike now leads down the valley and back to the starting point of the hike. Conclusion: Beautiful hike in the perfect time of year.

Very nice hike with wonderful views. The raised moor surprised us wonderfully. There are enough places to stop for refreshments 👍.

After the lovely city trip to Wroclaw, today we wanted to go up high again on the way back home. The way home took us towards the Giant Mountains, because our goal was the Szrenica, or in German the Reifträger. We started in the ski resort of Szklarska Poręba, where as you drive through all sorts of property owners put up signs telling you that their property is the best and cheapest for parking. After we had made our decision, we took the chairlift up to the first station, although the speed of the lift was more like meditative movement. But at some point the lift made it and we continued on foot. After just under a kilometer, a car with a ranger suddenly stopped at the side of the road, pointing to the sign behind him that said "National Park". After a short exchange of words, it became clear to us that from here on there was an entrance fee, which we could even pay with a credit card in the middle of the forest. At €2.50 per person, it wasn't a huge sum and, my God, that's just how it should be. The funny thing is that you can also get to this region from the Czech Republic, but then it doesn't cost anything. Anyway, it was now a really tough and sweaty climb up a wide forest path and it wasn't until we reached the Kuckucksteine, a small group of rocks, that it became a little more level. Just as the drizzle started, we reached the Schlesische Baude and treated ourselves to a beer and delicious apple pie. In the meantime, the clouds had briefly cleared a view of the ridge path further up, but the weather forecast for the rest of the year was rather poor. So we didn't continue up as planned, but took the path through the raised moor. This turned out to be a really nice trail with lots of lovely sections with wooden planks. We really like that kind of thing. At the end, the path also ends up on the ridge, which led us to the Sausteine, which we had to ourselves after a short wait. The weather was now getting unpleasant and the summit of the Szrenica had completely disappeared in the fog. As this meant that any view was virtually hopeless, we saved the last 300m up and just kept walking. This also meant descending the mountain, which turned out to be a stupid paved path on this side and was just a pain to walk on. At times it seemed as if the trainees from the workshop for the blind had laid the stones on the path in a cloak and dagger operation. That's an exaggerated description, because this part of the path is really no fun. It only got better at the Zackel Falls, because here you can walk through the forest alongside the actual path. There you can also visit the gorge of the same name, which you have to pay an entrance fee to visit and in return you will be given a helmet. Because of the rain, that wasn't an option today, so we continued straight down. A great path then took us back to the starting point and ended a really nice round. If it hadn't been for the strange path on the descent, the round would certainly have received a better rating...but this is how it will be: Schalli's rating: 🥾🥾🥾 - -

Today we went from Szklarska Poreba to the Zackelfall, the highest waterfall in the Polish Sudetenland. Then we went up to a chalet, which is a sweaty climb. We went back over log dams to the Old Silesian Chalet. Beautiful panoramic views make the tour perfect. A beautiful landscape 🙋🏻‍♀️🥾🥾☀️🌲🌲 made the tour. As for the tour itself, you can say it's a sweaty climb 🥵, you need to be fit and sure-footed, and you should plan enough time.
