Hiking

Along the Camino del Risco you can have an ethnographic immersion experience and imagine how the Canary Island aborigines moved along the steep ravines that spread across the island. This short, but demanding, linear route will help you get an idea of the expertise and knowledge of their surroundings of the archipelago's original inhabitants.

The Route begins in the town of Teno. It is only possible to get here by private vehicle, so we recommend that you travel by taxi from Buenavista del Norte. The walk consists of two main parts. The first descends gently and takes you to the incredible lunar landscape around the Mulata track, where you will not be able to avoid capturing images, and continues to the Teno tagoror, an ancient Guanche assembly site.

The second part goes into the Camino del Risco that descends steeply and twists through the Aderno ravine. The path presents a technical challenge of steps and rocks with exposed steps that will make you sharpen your senses. However, the reward of walking an ancient path is more than enough. It is advisable to bring walking sticks for support, high shoes to protect your ankles and enough water to drink.

The excursion ends at a bus stop on the TF-445 highway, where you can catch a bus that will take you back to Buenavista del Norte.

A worthwhile detour from Teno Alto to the lunar landscape on the Pista de la Mulata.
Either naturally formed or caused by wear and tear, this is a bizarre spot within the laurel forests

Comments

March 11, 2026,Buenavista - Camino del Risco
An eventful fourth day began once again with an escape from the rain to the Buenavista del Norte region.

However, due to a closure of the access road to the Teno lighthouse, the planned coastal hike in the sunshine was cancelled, and instead, we embarked on the windy and beautiful ascent to Teno via the Camino del Risco.
