Hiking

The Gaisberger circular hiking trail offers an easy 3.5-mile (5.6 km) loop with about 531 feet (162 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking 1 hour and 39 minutes to complete. As you hike, you will experience varied terrain, including gravel paths and forested sections, leading to magnificent panoramic views of Salzburg city, the Flachgau region, and the distant Watzmann mountain range. On clear days, you can even see the German border and the Salzkammergut Mountains from various viewpoints along the route.

Planning your visit is straightforward, as the trail is easily accessible from Salzburg city. You can take Bus 151 from the city center, with the journey lasting approximately 30 minutes to reach the trailheads. The route is suitable for all fitness levels and is considered family-friendly, with parts even accessible for strollers and wheelchairs, especially the section from Zistelalm to the main viewing platform. You will find several inns and huts along the way, perfect for a refreshment stop.

The Gaisberg area is a popular recreational hub, offering more than just this circular hike; it features a network of trails with varying lengths and difficulties. Beyond hiking, the mountain is used for road cycling, mountain biking, and paragliding. In winter, it transforms into a destination for ski touring and sledding, making it a year-round outdoor destination close to the city.

November 6, 2021,202111 Gaisbergrundweg ❄☁️🌥
The Gaisbergrundweg runs around the Gaisberg at an altitude of around 1000 meters. This year there is already snow at this altitude, but the path is still almost entirely free. The way is easy, you can also see prams.
As an exception, I went up (otherwise I always go) to sit comfortably in the sun somewhere and read the newspaper, …

Take the bus to the Zistelalm (on weekdays, the bus only runs every 90 minutes). The Zistelalm is only open on weekends.
Beautiful walk. Easy, wide path – also suitable for strollers.
We saw a slowworm on the trail.

To Salzburg to the Gaisberg circular route.
Started from the free parking lot at the Zistelalm, which was full at lunchtime when we returned.
It is recommended to take the bus from Mirabellgarten.

Today with both sons, what a joy. 👍🥰

Great view of Salzburg from the observation bridge.👍

On October 28, 2021 drive by car up the Gaisberg to the Zistlalm (1000 m). From there hike around the Gaisberg on the circular hiking trail. Wonderful weather and a fantastic panorama. Beautiful autumn colors. Walking time about 1 3/4 hours.

Today, four of us went on a day trip to the Gaisberg. We first did the Gaisberg circular trail and then took the bus to the Gaisbergspitze.

It says 'Alpine Way' at the beginning... I call that a huge exaggeration!
