Cycling

With its length of around 38 kilometers, the Ansbach Carp Cycle Route from Leutershausen to Windsbach is an ideal basis for extended tours. After leaving your starting point behind you will find yourself in the middle of open fields. You cross the Zobelholzbach and there is the first and only climb.

You step up about 180 meters and as soon as you have reached Hinterholz, you can jet down the entire climb. At the idyllic Scheerweiher you can stretch your legs and take a break in nature. After that it will be of particular cultural interest. In Ansbach you can expect a picturesque city center and the magnificent residence. You can dine regally in the associated orangery with the impressive courtyard garden.

Along the Franconian Rezat, you now head south-east across vast fields. You hiss through some small villages and can be happy because it tends to go downhill. On the route you will always find information boards that tell you more about water management and the habitat on the river. In the historic city of Windsbach you have reached your destination and can stop off comfortably.

Scheer Pond

Highlight • Lake

The 53 hectare Scheerweihergebiet is located north of the Ansbach district of Schalkhausen. Already in the Middle Ages the Scheerweiher was created as a fish pond by damming the Onolzbach and the Hohenmühlbach.
Its water was used to operate the Scheermühle until 1930. The pond developed into one of the most ecologically mature still waters in Middle Franconia.
The very shallow pond is surrounded by broad rushes, cattails and reed beds. In the scissor-shaped brook valleys, the wet and scattered meadows are cultivated in small parts. Davall sedge, globeflower and broadleaf orchid are found here.
More than sixty species of birds breed in the area, including the snipe, the water rail and the reed warbler. Notable guests are the lapwing, the red kite and the osprey.
A pedunculate oak-hornbeam forest grows on Bocksberg, in which almost all native woodpeckers breed. Toads and newts use the nearby pond for spawning. Over five thousand toads form one of the largest populations in the Frankenhöhe natural area.
The semi-dry turf on the slope below is grazed. Numerous dead wood beetles live in the striking old oak ponds, including the rare hermit.

Very nice renovated downtown and pedestrian area. Little opportunity for breakfast before the start of the tour, but very many ice cream parlors in the afternoon, when the tour is over.
