Kirchenburgen und große Weine

Visiting many of the fortified churches along the route can easily turn this half-day tour into a full-day trip – luckily, there are plenty of places to stop for refreshments!

The tour begins at the Knauf Museum on the market square in Iphofen. After just a few kilometers, you'll reach Mönchsondheim, the first of the stage towns, with its impressive medieval fortified church. The route then leads through the so-called "Franconian Wine Paradise" with its sunny vineyards and renowned wine-growing areas to Hüttenheim. Here, cyclists will find one of the largest and best-preserved fortified churches in Franconia, its medieval core dating back to around 1300.

Shortly before Seinsheim, you can enjoy not only a magnificent view at the "Wine Paradise Barn" but also the wines and regional specialties. In Seinsheim, the Church of St. Peter and Paul forms the centerpiece of the almost completely preserved fortified church complex. The 17 farmhouses with cellars from the 15th century have been lovingly restored.

The next two fortified churches also invite exploration: A small agricultural museum is housed in a farmhouse within the fortified church of Tiefenstockheim, while two kilometers further on, a "biblical" garden can be visited in the fortified church of Willanzheim. The route then leads back to Iphofen via Mainbernheim and Rödelsee at the foot of the Schwanberg mountain.
