Cycling

A big “D on green ground” gives you a short but crisp tour in a class of its own in the Upper Main Jura. Idyllic valleys alternate with steep climbs and rapid descents. The tour offers everything a cyclist's heart desires: forest and field paths to tar and river crossings. Variety is guaranteed and cycling skills are sometimes required.

Get on the saddle and discover the Jura by bike. If the 50 kilometers are not enough for you, we recommend a detour to the Niesten castle ruins. Or you can take a stroll through the towns of Weismain, Altenkunstadt or Burgkunstadt and end the day comfortably with cake, beer or a snack.

The start and end point is at the train station in Burgkunstadt, so you can travel comfortably by train.

Herbstmühle

Highlight • Structure

At the Herbstmühle, a short trip into the Bärental to the Krassach source is worthwhile. You can sit there and take a break. Don't feel like taking a break? Then take the swing up the mountain to Wunkendorf, because it will be steep.

The Herbstmühle is one of the many mills around Weismain. Grain was once milled here by the driving force of the Krassach. Today it produces electricity for its residents.

Weismain Spring

Highlight • Natural

The Weismain winds through the Kleinziegenfeld valley through the idyllic Jura landscape. Shortly behind Weismain, the small river merges with the Krassach to flow into the Main at Altenkunstadt. And here in Kleinziegenfeld you can see the spring gushing.
Attention: please do not confuse with the "White Main", which flows together with the "Red Main" to the Main.

Jura Heights

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

At the top of the Jura heights, you can look forward to low-traffic roads and land consolidation routes. Fields and forests alternate. You won't find much shade up here. From time to time, a strong breeze of wind can cool you down. Especially in late summer you can let yourself drift between the golden fields. Try it.

Weismain historic town centre

Highlight • Historical Site

Historic buildings in the old town include a street market established in the early 13th century, well-preserved city fortifications, a Renaissance town hall (1543), the parish church of St. Martin, a market fountain with a Roland statue (1577), half-timbered houses, and the Kastenhof courtyard with the North JURA Museum and tourist information.

Weismain is also a convenient starting point for day trips to Banz Abbey, the Vierzehnheiligen Basilica, Coburg, Kulmbach, Bamberg, or Bayreuth, as well as to Franconian Switzerland, the Fichtel Mountains, or the Franconian Forest.

Cycling enthusiasts should note Whit Monday: On this day, car-free cycling and hiking can be enjoyed around the Kleinziegenfelder Valley.
