Gaspésie National Park is described as being a sea of mountains, and is characterised by two ranges: the Chic-Chocs and McGerigles. The Mont Ernest-Laforce hiking trail takes you into the heart of the wilderness on the Gaspésie peninsula. Enjoy the 360-degree views of the surrounding peaks – some of which are over 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) high.
The terrain starts off flat as you leave the car park, but soon starts to climb towards the summit of Mont Ernest-Laforce. The path is beautiful, with wonderful views over the deep green conifers and breathtaking mountain landscape. Keep an eye out for moose along the way. If you spot any of the iconic woodland caribou, keep a distance of at least 50 metres (165 ft). The trail then leads back down to the starting point.
The park is located south of the coastal town Sainte-Anne-des-Monts. The entrance fee is around ten Canadian dollars.
