Hiking
Welcome to Mont-Tremblant, Québec's oldest national park. Created in 1895, and nestled in the Laurentian Mountains, it spans 1,500 square kilometres (580 square miles). Explore lakes, forests and hills, and look out for foxes, deer, moose and Canadian herons. Hiking is a wonderful way to get close to nature in the north of Montréal, but you can also take a trip in a canoe to see the views from a different angle. The Bois-Franc trail is one of the most popular hikes in the national park.
Your hike starts at the Lac Monroe visitor centre, which provides maps and up-to-date information about the trail conditions. From the lake you can admire the intricately carved totem poles that rise up next to the shore. The path then takes you into the heart of the forest, where you’ll be surrounded by Balsam firs, birches and maple trees. About halfway along the trail, you’ll reach an idyllic lakeside refuge where you can stop for a well-deserved break. You’ll continue through the forest back to your starting point by Lake Monroe.
You can drive from Montréal to Mont-Tremblant National Park in under two hours. The entrance fee is around ten Canadian dollars.
