Bonshaw Trail - Main Trail - Hardwood Hills - Saw Mill - Witch's Way

Bonshaw Provincial Park is home to a network of trails that can be combined to make for fantastic hiking adventures, like the route presented here. You can tailor this loop as you see fit, discovering the region’s varied terrain, lush forest and Bonshaw River, a popular fishing spot.

The Main Trail is named Ji'ka'we'katik, the name given by the Mi'kmaq – indigenous people who lived in various parts of the Atlantic Provinces including Prince Edward Island – for the West River. It’s pronounced Jih-Ga-Way-Ga-Dig and means ‘the place where bass are plentiful’.

The hike starts from the car park, where there’s also an adventure playground with a walk-in swing, balancing ropes and a slide hill. You begin by walking over gentle hills into the park. Located in the Red Sands Shore region, the park is on the Trans-Canada Highway, just a 25-minute drive from Charlottetown and 40 minutes from Summerside.
