Mineral Lick Trail – Muncho Lake Provincial Park

The Mineral Lick Trail winds through the northern Canadian Rocky Mountains in Muncho Lake Provincial Park. The trail got its name from the wild animals such as moose, caribou and rock sheep that gather here to lick minerals from the sandstone slopes above the Trout River. In summer, the trail is lined with beautiful wildflowers.

The Mineral Lick Trail is just one kilometre (0.6 mi) long and offers some beautiful views and fascinating rock formations. You can park your car at the end of a short gravel road just off the Alaska Highway. The hike is easy and fairly flat, and is therefore perfect for younger children, although you’ll need to supervise them closely around the cliffs in places where there are no barriers. It’s best to do the hike in the early morning or evening.
