Hiking
On North Vancouver’s Grouse Grind Trail, you’ll ascend through shaded woodland to a fantastic viewpoint . The trail first became popular with Vancouverites in the 1980s and, nowadays, locals and visitors alike head over in search of a challenge. The breathtaking view of the Pacific metropolis and the Coast Mountains make the gruelling 2,830 steps and 800 metres (2,600 ft) of altitude gain all worthwhile.
You’ll start your adventure at the valley station of the gondola lift, before hiking through pine forest along winding paths and steps. It's worth stopping every now and then to enjoy the surroundings: delicate ferns line the edge of the path, and gaps in the spruce and fir trees give way to fleeting yet dramatic views. Once you reach your destination, you’ll be greeted by a stunning panorama of the Pacific Ocean and the city. You can also meet some and meet some impressive grizzly bears in the wildlife.
The Grouse Grind Trail is very popular due to its proximity to Vancouver. For safety reasons, hiking downhill is not permitted after the first quarter. You can get back to the start by either cable car or via the BCMC Trail.
