Hiking
For the best view of Crescent Falls, take this short but rewarding hike. The cascade is visible from the car park at the start of the route and the views just keep coming from there onwards. Follow the path through the forest to a viewpoint with a great view of both falls.
Over huge timespans, the Bighorn River has carved deep into the rock, and a dense forest adorns the steep cliffs. It’s a magnificent place to hike, while the path is mostly flat and not too demanding. Nonetheless, if hiking with a dog, keep it on its lead as the slopes are steep. This is bear country, so make plenty of noise as you hike, especially when the trail ahead is unseen when turning corners and the like.
It's well worth stopping for a break at the Bighorn Canyon viewpoint and taking in the deep valley with its rugged walls. While there’s a car park nearby, it’s much more rewarding to have hiked to this point.
The Crescent Falls are very popular with visitors all year round, so it's worth setting out early to avoid the crowds. There’s a motorhome-friendly campsite near the start, a good accommodation option.
