Cavendish Grove’s Homestead Trail is wonderfully varied. Starting from the well-known Cavendish Beach, you’ll hike through tranquil spruce forests and past idyllic lagoons to New London Bay, before heading back over bridges, dunes and fields.

The 13-kilometre (8-mi) loop begins with a longer section through the forest, past several beautiful picnic spots on the shore of New London Bay. It's worth taking a break at one of these and enjoying the views over the red stretch of sand. The bright red colouring is due to the soil’s high iron content.

You’ll cut slightly inland, past fields of potatoes, wheat and hay, before rejoining the coast and walking back along Cavendish Beach to your start point.

Thursday and Friday were hiking-free days🚷 because we had to drive a somewhat longer distance by car 🚗.
🐖 because it drizzled almost all day on Thursday and on Friday Prince Edward Island opened every possible lock for us 🌧🌧. What a friendly welcome🤨.
