The Skerwink Trail showcases the beauty of the Newfoundland and Labrador coastline. The 5-kilometre (3-mi) loop follows the rugged sea cliffs and you’ll hopefully spot icebergs, sea stacks, and maybe even some whales. Bald eagles fly overhead, and moose hide in the bushes. Nature in Newfoundland and Labrador is simply spectacular!
Starting from the roadside parking in picturesque Trinity East, you’ll head towards the east coast. Leaving the pretty cottages behind you, the path becomes narrower as it leads between impressive clifftop viewpoints.
The terrain is wonderfully varied, with wooden steps, walkways across marshes and hairy sections close to the steep cliff edges. However, most of the path is soft, flat and easygoing and you can indulge in the wonderful views as you wander along.
You’ll reach the viewing platform after around 3.5 kilometres (2 mi). The picnic table on the deck is the perfect place to enjoy a snack and admire the incredible panorama.

One of the most spectacular hikes we ever been on, starting out easy but getting more demanding after the first km. Not recommended in running shoes as we did. Part of the Hike Discovery network this moderate to difficult coastal trail features sea stacks, whales, icebergs and eagles as well as views of the communities of Port Rexton and Trinity. This trail has been selected by Travel and Leisure Magazine as one of the top 35 walks in North America and Europe in its August 2003 World Best Awards issue.
