This route was planned by komoot.
Today I stopped in Mainz-Kostheim to do my 4th Riesling loop "Loess and Clay". I started in Kostheim at the parking lot on the Maaraue and then always followed the signs - but not clockwise as recommended, but counterclockwise. The route was well signposted and unfortunately that was about it for the positive impressions. Almost exclusively asphalt (bike-friendly and barrier-free), unsightly stretches on the road and through residential areas, constant views of smoking chimneys in industrial areas, unkempt rest benches, an unkempt pond fountain that is specifically mentioned on the information boards, smeared information boards. On the Main, a woman asked me why I would photograph the ugly bridge --- because there is hardly anything beautiful to photograph on this tour. But at least 2 hours out in the fresh air 😆. For me, this route is one of the typical examples of funded projects: somehow I have to spend the funding of around €75,000 - I don't know what additional tax money was added. But I've decided to walk all the loops and I also know that the others on the Rhine from Wiesbaden are nicer. I only have 10 now. https://www.komoot.de/collection/2437723/-14-riesling-schleifen-rheingau Since you can write anything beautifully, here is the official description: www.outdooractive.com/de/route/hike/wiesbaden-rheingau/riesling-schleife-loess-und-lehm/65492433/ We start through the rafters' park, over the snail bridge to the outskirts of town into the vineyards. The Fähncheskreuz is located on a hill and offers distant views of the large Feldberg in the Taunus and the Donnersberg in the Palatinate. The weather vane above the figure of Jesus gave the cross on the historic Steinerne Straße its name. Lush meadows, horse paddocks and leafy vineyards characterize the landscape on the path to the Main. The path leads along the open meadow landscape back to the wine tasting stand at Franz-Henz-Platz.
Asphalt throughout, more like a bike ride 🤷♀️
Then there was loess and clay, it felt like 95% asphalt, also a walking path without any highlights. Well, at least a little moved...
Today's hike showed that this year's grape harvest is almost complete, which gave us an ever-increasing desire for tarte flambée and Federweißer.
