This year's green gold harvest began around August 20th in the hop gardens around Tettnang. Before the harvest after approx. 4 weeks in the second largest growing area in Germany (Hallertau, BY, largest area), I went on the hop loop around Tettnang. The starting point was the Tettnang-Neuhäusle WP at Hubi's herb garden, I rode anti-clockwise, which means that at the end of the Argental from Laimnau to Iglerberg or Neuhäusle it's uphill again, but no problem with an e-bike. Every year, around August 25th, the hop harvest starts. The hops, a natural product that gives the beer its aroma, are grown around Tettnang. Humulus lupulus, as it is called in Latin, belongs to the hemp family and grows eight meters high. The "Tettnanger Hopfenschschleife" is a signposted circular cycle tour. It is 42 km long, of which about 10 km are paved gravel roads, and is of medium difficulty. Around 160 meters in altitude have to be mastered along the way. The logo of the hop loop accompanies us on this circular cycle route, which leads us from the Bodensee-Radweg to the heights behind Tettnang . From there we enjoy a wonderful view of the landscape we have just driven through, over Lake Constance and the Alps.
Marion and Heinz had a week's vacation at Lake Constance. During our 5 bike tours we covered a total distance of 240 km. We recorded three tours with Komoot. On this tour we drove from Gohren in the direction of Friedrichshafen along Lake Constance. Then it went into the hinterland towards Tettnang. You drive past orchards and hop fields again and again. In Tettnang, the new castle and the old town can be visited. In Tettnang we were surprised by a thunderstorm. We were able to escape under the canopy of an old warehouse and wait there until the storm moved on. After 45 minutes we were able to continue. The route is easy to drive, except for a section between Neuhäusle and Iglerberg through the forest. The route consists of very coarse pebbles. In Laimnau there is a quaint farmer's inn. We went there for dinner another day. The rest of the route then leads mostly along the Argen to Langenargen.
Today I was able to check off one tour on my to-do list. The Hop Loop was pretty high on it. I set my starting point in Friedrichshafen and cycled counterclockwise to Langenargen before heading into the hop-growing region. I used the stop at the Hop Museum to rehydrate, but not with coffee this time.
Wonderful bike tour with a few inclines and wonderful views. In the summer of 2021, a section of the cycle path on the left bank of the Argen was closed. But the right side is also beautiful.
Last 🚲 tour on Lake Constance 😹. Today the "Hop Loop" was on the agenda. From Langenargen, we drove through the Eriskircher Ried region toward Friedrichshafen. From there, we took the turnoff to Tettnang and the New Palace, one of the most important palaces in southern Germany. The Hop Trail led us through the town's market to "Hopfengut No. 20" in Siggenweiler. Delicious food 🥘🍱 and drinks 🍺 are listed here on the menu 📝. Past hop gardens, apple and cherry orchards, the tour took us to the Argen River, a tributary of Lake Constance, which led us to Kressbronn. The tour concluded at the Seewiese (lake meadow) in Kressbronn ☕️🍰. On the way back to Langenargen we joined the chariot convoy, sometimes quite adventurous what goes on there 🤦♀️🤦♂️
Finally a few days off 😃 Hope the weather will be nice too 🚴🏻😊
Swimming in Lake Constance near Langenargen at 19* is simply great
