The Homestead Meadows

The Homestead Meadows are named for the several historic homesteads that are all within close proximity to each other in this scenic meadow. All eight homesteads were established by different families between 1889 and 1923. There are informational signs at each of the sites that provide the history of the families. In addition to these fascinating pieces of Colorado history, this hike offers fantastic views of Rocky Mountain National Park, ample wildlife viewing opportunities (look out for moose!), and in the spring the meadow in filled with wildflowers.

Highlight • Historical Site

Frank Irvin first received the deed to the Irvin homestead in 1917 where a sawmill was operated on the property and also rabbit were raised for pelts for sale. It is the most complete homestead in the area.

Walker Homestead

In 1914, Sarah Walker, believed to be the only single woman living in this area, was deeded this land. She raised chickens for eggs and sold cream at the market. It's a nice place to experience a blast from the past mixed with beautiful scenery.
