Trail Reviews

August 19, 2025, Ederseeuferradweg – Kellerwald-Edersee

At the Edertal Dam, you can already see the lack of rain. In Asel, you can see a buoy and several 🚤 boats lying on dry land. The dam was closed for construction, which forced us to take a small detour. But overall, the tour is easy to ride, with some gravel paths that are better suited to trekking or mountain biking.

Today was our second attempt at a loop around Lake Edersee. The weather was great, so we were able to enjoy the tour.

The start is on a free parking lot between Hemfurth and Waldeck West. Nice tour with a slightly longer climb to Basdorf.

Everyone should have driven the complete circuit around the Edersee. No matter what time of year. Very varied, in a beautiful landscape.

I would like to mention one thing right at the start... it was the most beautiful bike tour I have ever done in my life 🙏🙏👍👌... that is my very personal opinion of this bike tour 😉 All those who know the Edersee cycle path know how beautiful this cycle path is, for everyone else, cycle around the Edersee once in your life 🚴... please 🙏😄. I was a little disappointed this morning about the high fog that didn't give the sun a chance at first😁. But it was exactly this light at the start that totally fascinated me... and then the sun came out... everything was absolutely perfect today ☁️☀️👍🚴The old bridge in Asel was submerged in the lake today and couldn't be seen.😄. I have already crossed the Edersee over this bridge to the other side with dry feet. It was incredibly beautiful today 📸🚴.

A full circuit of the (almost empty) Edersee. The southern section features numerous forest paths and trails, some of them gravel and rocky. The climb between Scheid and Asel has a steady gradient of 6-10% with 130 vertical meters of elevation gain over 1.8 km. Not suitable for everyone? Better to cycle clockwise? This side is less steep and the gradient is a bit more varied.

Very nice tour, well signposted. You should take the time to enjoy the view 🌝
