The Dodaarspad trail conveniently starts and ends at the Buitencentrum Oostvaardersplassen. You'll find parking facilities available there.
A portion of the Dodaarspad route is not accessible with dogs. It's best to check local signage or consider alternative trails if you plan to hike with your dog.
The Dodaarspad offers a rich experience year-round, but for optimal wildlife viewing, especially birds, spring and autumn are often ideal. Be prepared for potentially muddy conditions during wet seasons, so waterproof shoes are recommended.
Generally, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Dodaarspad within Nationaal Park Nieuw Land. The park is freely accessible, though some facilities or special events might have costs.
The Dodaarspad is approximately 10 kilometers long. Based on its moderate difficulty, you can expect the hike to take around 2.5 to 3 hours to complete at a steady pace, not including stops for wildlife viewing or rest.
The trail primarily consists of unpaved paths. While generally easily passable, hikers should be prepared for varying ground conditions, especially during wet periods when parts can become muddy. There's also a small climb up the Knardijk towards the end.
This trail is a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts! You have a good chance of spotting Konik horses in the Oostvaardersveld and potentially deer, foxes, and numerous bird species, including the golden oriole, in the Hollandse Hout. The park is renowned for its birdlife, including the iconic white-tailed eagle.
The route offers several interesting spots. You'll pass by the Oostvaardersplassen Visitor Centre, which is a great starting point. You'll also encounter the Bird Hide Nieuw Land, offering excellent viewing opportunities, and traverse the Oostvaardersveld Nature Reserve. The trail also goes past a Pond in Nieuw Land National Park.
Yes, the route also passes through sections of the Pionierspad - 07, 't Langepad, Moeraspad, Weidepad, Zeearendroute, Kitsweg, Knardijk, Frans Vera pad, and Kotterbospad.
Yes, the Dodaarspad is designed as a circular walk, meaning it starts and ends at the same point, typically the Buitencentrum Oostvaardersplassen.
Nationaal Park Nieuw Land is unique because it's an entirely man-made park, created on reclaimed land from what was once the Zuiderzee. This history gives it a distinctive landscape combining straight lines with vast water bodies, open air, and thriving nature, making it a testament to human-made ecosystems.
It is always nice to come here, to see many foals. Nice route and very diverse. Unfortunately not too nice weather but great to walk.
Nice walk only part of the path is no longer accessible. They have widened the water lake so the path has been removed.
Thought we would walk a nice route at the Oostvaardersplas But what a disappointment, everything was simply destroyed by heavy machines, even with caterpillar tracks. There was just no way to get through. And we didn't see any animals either. What a disappointment
