Hiking

The Jam is one of the most beautiful high valleys in the Paznaun Alps. It stretches from Galtür towards the south up into the glacier world, which is always visible at the beginning of the side valley. Starting from the Galtür village square, the hiking trail leads past the Menta Alm (1,657 meters) and the Scheibenalm (1,833 meters).

After about three hours of walking, the Jamtalhütte at 2,165 meters becomes visible and offers a breathtaking panorama of the huge Jamtal glacier with the front and rear Jamspitze. Especially at the end of June/beginning of July, the blooming alpine roses create an additional impressive hiking backdrop.

The Jamtalhütte is surrounded by the highest peaks of the Silvretta, such as Fluchthorn, Jamspitzen and Dreiländerspitze, to name just three of the numerous two and three thousand meter peaks. They form the peaks of a crowning landscape, in the center of which the hut is located.

Because of the large glacier areas, this area of the Silvretta is also called the "blue Silvretta". Since the side valleys lead to the hut in a star shape, the Jamtalhütte offers a wide range of tours and hiking options on rock and ice of all levels of difficulty, in summer and winter. The area is not only suitable for tours for adults, it is also an ideal hiking area for families with children. Particular attention is drawn to the practice opportunities in the climbing gardens in and around the hut.

Our recommendation: Climb further up to the glacier (komoot.de/highlight/250387) or explore the climbing arena (komoot.de/highlight/250392) above the hut - either climb here yourself or simply watch the other climbers do it.

Flat Rock by the Stream in Jamtal Valley

Highlight • Natural Monument

Right on the stream is a large flat rock here. When it has warmed up by the sun, it is a fantastic place to briefly interrupt the climb to the Jamtalhütte and enjoy the view down to the valley.

Jamtalhütte

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Easily accessible hut - both on foot and by bike. Only the last climb is really crisp. For hikers, the path east of the stream is the better choice. From the terrace there's a good view of the surrounding 3000s. Delicious food is available.

After Plan A didn't work out, as the sign for the Gorfenspitze included a via ferrata requiring a via ferrata set (marked as T1 and T2 on Komoot), we quickly changed our plans. The Predigtberg was supposed to be the alternative, but when we reached the start, a sign indicated that the path was closed for work. So we had …

Today we started on foot - to the Jamtalhütte in the beautiful Jamtal, which starts almost directly on our doorstep. Last year we rode the tour on bikes, which was a lot of fun, but also had its challenges due to the steep ramps just before the hut (at least with the bio bike).

The Jamtal is a long side valley in the Paznaun, which stretches from Galtür to the glaciated Jamspitzen at the transition to the Engadin. The parking lot for today's tour is at the Menta Alm, which is located at the entrance to the Jamtal and is easy to reach from Galtür. The first short stretch of the route runs on …

Really nice tour if you want more distance and fewer meters in altitude. You walk a good 10km behind the Jamtal to the hut. You can choose whether to stick to the steadily slightly uphill road, or rather follow a narrow hiking trail with more ups and downs.

Cloud-covered mountains today, so a tour through the Jamtal was a good idea today. We were able to drive to the Menta Alm. From there we went through the Jamtal to the Scheibenalm and then on to the Jamtalhütte. As you can see in the photos, communication with the alpine cows is always necessary in order to make progress on …
