A challenging, but not too difficult climb. Absolutely recommended; you have to ride the Silvretta High Alpine Road at least once!

Kops Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

The Kops reservoir, also known as Kopssee, is picturesquely nestled in the Austrian Alps in the state of Vorarlberg. This artificial reservoir was created through the construction of the Kops dam on the River Ill and is primarily used to generate energy. The imposing dam towers majestically and forms an impressive contrast to the surrounding alpine landscape.

The Kops reservoir covers an area of around 217 hectares and reaches a maximum depth of around 85 meters. Surrounded by forested slopes and rugged peaks, the lake offers an idyllic backdrop for nature lovers and those seeking relaxation. The region around the reservoir is a popular destination for hikers and offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities.

In addition to its importance as an energy source, the Kops reservoir presents itself as a place of peace and relaxation. The lake's clear mountain water reflects the surrounding mountains, while hiking trails and viewpoints offer visitors unforgettable panoramic views. Whether you enjoy the breathtaking natural scenery or do some sport, the Kops reservoir is a fascinating destination for anyone who wants to experience the beauty of the Austrian Alps.

Kops Climb

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

If you want to escape from the Montafon to Paznaun and the motorized traffic on the Hochalpenstrasse, you can recommend this route via the Kops reservoir. Rarely encountered a vehicle, the entire route very well paved. However very steep climbs> 18% and sweeping. But you will be rewarded with peace and views.

September 23, 2022,Bieler Höhe - dem Himmel so nah...
I have to visit the Bielerhöhe once a year. And just like at Christmas, there are always the same rituals here: Parking after the Bludenz turnoff in the direction of Montafon in the industrial area. Coffee in Gaschurn in the village cafe. (although I only come once a year, the super-nice landlady always knows me) Photo session at the Vermunt …
