Hiking

The Limbara massif, imposing and serene, dominates the north of Sardinia. With this route we invite you to explore its rocky heart.

Your adventure starts from the car park near Baita Limbara. Here, the path immerses itself in an enchanting forest of monumental sequoias, planted at the beginning of the last century.

The path now climbs towards Punta Giogantinu, the second highest peak in Limbara. The granite peak seems like an irresistible invitation to climb, but be especially careful if the rocks are wet. From the summit, the view is spectacular: to the north-west the Gulf of Asinara, and on the horizon in front of you, the Gennargentu chain.

Going down, you reach the small church of the Madonna della Neve. Framed by a naturalistic landscape of rare beauty, the building recalls the original architecture of the ancient Gallura churches, with exposed granite corners along the entire external wall. In winter, this entire area transforms into a whitewashed wonder.

Continue beyond the small church for a digression towards the Arco di Supràppare, a natural monument established in 1989. Continuing, you pass by the former NATO military base and descend with a series of hairpin bends. Along the Rio Pisciaroni, you finally reach the ford, which takes you back to the starting car park.
