January 25, 2026,Bloemendaal - Parnassia (gedeeltelijk route rood) Nationaal Park Zuid-Kennemerland
From Bloemendaal to Parnassia. A beautiful route that I'll definitely repeat. One of the most beautiful dune areas, in short, highly recommended.

Nice walk from Santpoort-Noord to the beach and back. The walk can be tough, especially if you do it in the summer. There is not much shade and the sun has free rein in the dunes. The surroundings are beautiful.

What kind of terrain can I expect on this route?

You'll experience a varied dune landscape, transitioning from older, forested inland dunes to shrub-rich middle dunes, and finally to young, flower-filled sea dunes. The path involves constant ascent and descent over hills and through valleys, primarily on small, sandy footpaths.

How long does it typically take to complete the route?

The route is approximately 13.8 km long and typically takes around 4 hours to complete, depending on your pace and stops.

What natural features or landmarks will I see along the way?

Is this trail dog-friendly?

No, dogs and other pets are unfortunately not permitted on the Koppen en Kuilenroute (red) to protect the sensitive dune ecosystem and wildlife.

Is this route suitable for families with young children or strollers?

Can I see wildlife on this hike?

Yes, the diverse environments mean you might encounter large grazers like wild horses and Scottish Highlanders, which play a role in maintaining the landscape. You may also spot various bird species, especially around the Vogelmeer.

Does this route connect with other hiking trails?

Yes, the Koppen en Kuilenroute (red) intersects with several other paths within the park. Sections of this route overlap with trails such as the Duinruggenroute, Rondje Hazenberg, and Rondje Brederodeberg.

What should I know about encountering large grazers like wild horses?

When encountering large grazers such as wild horses or Scottish Highlanders, it's important to maintain a respectful distance. Do not approach or feed them, and keep an eye on their behavior to ensure safety for both you and the animals.
