Hiking

The Hohe Burgstall is arguably the easiest of the Stubai Seven Summits to climb, but it's just as impressive as its brothers and sisters. The summit at the southwestern end of the Kalkkögel range offers stunning views. Above all, it showcases the full diversity of the Stubai Alps. It stands as a limestone massif on primary rock, and as you climb the beautifully shaped summit, you'll see this rock change with every step. From Fulpmes, take the Kreuzjochbahn cable car up to the starting point of the tour, the 2,105-meter-high Kreuzjoch.

Niedere Burgstall Summit

Highlight • Summit

The Niedere Burgstall (2,436 meters) is the little brother of the Hoher Burgstall. From the Kreuzjoch mountain station in the Schlick2000, it is a scenic hike that can be completed in a maximum of one and a half hours. From the Niederen Burgstall you can then climb the Hoher Burgstall, continue walking to the Starkenburger Hütte or descend to the Schlickeralm.

Great summit, easy to reach and easy to combine with the Niederen Burgstall.

Starkenburger Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Starkenburger Hütte is exposed on a green ledge, so you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Stubai Valley and the 3,277 meter high Habicht. If you stay the night and don't want to sleep outside, you can also reserve your place in the hut there. But be careful, during hot summer weeks the cistern tends to empty, so that you cannot enjoy the luxury of running water there either.

June 17, 2025,Stubai Seven Summits – Hoher Burgstall
The hike is truly beautiful; you should be free from vertigo or fear to climb the Hoher Burgstall. The climb to the summit is easier in this direction, as it's steep and scree-covered. There are footholds and ropes to hold on to.

Today we took a leisurely ride up with the Kreuzjochbahn. Up here there are lots of beautiful paths with a fantastic view 😍

The Hohe Burgstall is one of the Stubai Seven Summits. As it is the easiest of the seven, you are never alone on beautiful summer days in the high season, often there are real mass migrations. On a dull autumn day in the low season, you have the path and the summit almost alone. That was the first reason for …

Conclusion:
All in all, a very nice tour, mainly on narrow mountain paths (without shade) with a short (estimated 3-5 minutes) climbing passage in the scree field on the steel cable (with step pins or steps) below the summit of the Hohen Burgstall. The climbing passage is not really exposed, but despite this, a middle-aged couple turned back at the …
