Unique mountains: Val Venegia and Baita Segantini

Path that winds through one of the most suggestive valleys in the area. The route winds through the Venegia valley, where we reach the Segantini hut at 2200. A privileged observation point to observe the Pale di San Martino in their golden splendor. The uphill path is not particularly difficult and offers spectacular scenery.

If you are looking for an easy tour that fills the eyes, heart and soul, among the many feasible in the Dolomites, this one I am about to describe to you, in the presence of kings and queens of rock, is certainly one of those that must not be missing from your curriculum of e-bikers. The Val Venegia, the Baita Segantini, the Cimon de la Pala, a set of emotions in a single tour. I advise you to start from the parking lot along the Passo Valles road at the entrance to the Val Venegia in Pian dei Casoni. It is comfortable and there is plenty of space especially if you arrive early in the morning. The anti-clockwise ride is in my opinion the most fun because it offers a soft start, a gentle climb and a descent that seems to never end. Ready go! We cross the wooden bridge over the Travignolo stream and enter the woods following the signs for Malga Juribello. A few meters on a slight slope and then ignoring the path that indicates the climb to the hut on the left, we continue in the woods at a calm pace but mostly downhill. The air in the woods in the early morning is particularly crisp and last night's storm helped to further lower the temperature. The flow of the stream on our right is the company that will leave us only when we reach the asphalt road of Passo Rolle. Here unfortunately you have to "endure" this stretch along the road for just over 3 kilometres. At the fourth hairpin bend we say goodbye to the asphalt and take the dirt road that leads to the Juribello malga, the wooden board with the directions for the malga is very clear, it's impossible to go wrong. Always at a pleasant pace, we pedal on excellent terrain until the view opens onto Castellaz and Cimon de la Pala. Here the forest thins out, leaving room for the green pastures of the malga. A stop is a must and a good coffee with perhaps a slice of cake next to it helps to give us energy for the climb that awaits us. We discover that we are the first customers not so much of the day but of the summer season, the Juribello malga is officially open from today! Continuing the pace changes and the climb steepens more, the ground remains good except for three sections made up of a stone pavement. The rhythm then resumes very calmly and we reach the crossroads where we cross the dirt road that leads from Passo Rolle to Capanna Cervino. You always climb with a constant slope and not at all tiring. After all, the landscape around us is among the most beautiful in the area and we don't even realize the slow increase in altitude. After passing the Capanna Cervino we climb again with an ever-quick gaze from the magnificence of Cimon de la Pala and Cima Vezzana. In sight of Baita Segantini here is the famous lake and a myriad of alpine blooms all around that color the landscape. After the usual photo we put on the windproof jacket, a long descent awaits us! After the hill, the long serpentine road that descends into Val Venegia appears in front of us, I've done it several times going up from the bottom but I think that this time I'll love it much more going down! In fact, in a very short time, back after hairpin bend, we find ourselves on the green plateau at the base of the walls of the Pale di San Martino, where the path that goes up to the Mulaz refuge begins. Given the time we also begin to meet the first walkers who come from the parking lot, today the situation was rather calm, I remember one day before August 15th where it was really difficult to gain a meter of road. We also leave behind Malga Venegiota and finally Malga Venegia. We also find the Travignolo stream which accompanies us to the parking lot where we end the tour. I can confirm that the descent from the Baita Segantini to the parking lot is long, fun and rewarding, in short, a nice ride! I can't add anything else but recommend it to everyone: it's very simple and can be easily done in half a day. Furthermore, along the way there are numerous opportunities to stop in the huts to taste the local products. Have a nice ride!

Tour suitable for all mountain enthusiasts, even inexperienced, equipped with well-rubbered MTB or Gravel. The route, as you can see, is very short and with very little elevation gain. I cycled all day, because in the company of my wife who did it on foot, also following paths not suitable for bicycles. We left the car in a convenient parking lot in Paneveggio and took the signs for Val Veneggia. The path, suitable for both cycling and walking, followed the Travignolo stream, in a dense forest. Once you reach the large parking lot for the huts, the wood ends and the path becomes a wide dirt road, dusty and full of people and a few cars. Always following the Travignolo torrent we arrive at Malga Venegia and then Malga Venegiota. From here, always on a white road, go up towards Baita Segantini. As you can see, from the attached photos, the landscapes are majestic, I would say impressive. My old job "requires" continuous shots. At the Baita the climb ends and after the "postcard" photos we go down to Malga Juribello. From here the last descent to Paneveggio. At km 18 I had a bad, unsignposted surprise: the road was completely occupied by forestry vehicles at work: the signs of the Vaia storm, even here, are still very present and many trees have to be removed. I couldn't get through and so I decide to go back to get off somewhere else, but then I meet some tourists who tell me that it's enough to wait a bit and the contractor stops to let people pass on foot or by bicycle. And so I go back and after a few minutes the vehicles moved just enough. Licia, smarter, had taken a single track in the woods and therefore arrived before me at the car!!! If you follow my trail, you will see that there are some short detours due to the search for paths that my wife Licia then made.

fantastic descent for views from the Segantini hut to the val venegia car park. From there to Paneveggio there is a wonderful path in the woods that descends a few hundred meters from the main road, across the stream. Trip suitable for beginners!

It's one of the most beautiful tours, the Paneveggio forest is a natural monument.
