Hiking
The 2,649-meter-high Braunarlspitze is the highest mountain in the Bregenzerwald and thus a perfect panoramic summit. Sure-footedness, a head for heights, and sufficient endurance are necessary for the ascent. From the picturesque hiking village of Schröcken, follow a farm track to the Fellealpe. Excellent cheese is produced here, which can be tasted immediately.
Afterwards, you hike through the Fellbach valley, steadily uphill. You cross an open landscape without shade towards the summit. A steep mountain path leads to the Fürggele, a pass crossing to the Großer Walsertal. The following section on the alpine, partly rope-secured Weimarer Steig through rocky terrain is only recommended with absolute sure-footedness and a head for heights.
Once you reach the Braunarlspitze, the whole of Vorarlberg lies at your feet. After enjoying the spectacular view, the descent leads down to the idyllic Butzensee. The surrounding mountain landscape is reflected in the turquoise water – wonderful! The Jägersteig, partly exposed and rope-secured, leads back into the Fellbachtal. From here, the hike leads back to Schröcken along the same path.
