Hiking

The islet of Lobos, with its mere five square kilometers of extension, is one of the best preserved areas of the Canary Islands. This circular route takes you to discover its great variety of natural treasures: from salt marshes with lagoons that are flooded from time to time to the famous “hornitos”, small volcanic cones.

To get to the islet, you have to take a ferry from the port of Corralejo, in the north of Fuerteventura. From the pier, the first part of the Route passes by the wonderful Concha beach (perfect for a refreshing swim!), the Caldera mountain (the highest elevation in Lobos, at 127 meters) and the Martiño lighthouse .

On your way back, the path takes you through El Puertito, an old settlement of fishermen and shellfish gatherers surrounded by small bays and coves where the turquoise blue of the sea invites you to enter its waters. If you need to recharge your batteries, here is the only restaurant on the island, where you can eat while enjoying the wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean.

If you don't have a car, you can also get to Corralejo by bus. Check the lines and schedules at this link: www.tiadhe.com/todas-las-rutas/.

La Concha Beach (Isla de Lobos)

Highlight • Beach

Without a doubt the best beach on the islet of Lobos, perfect for cooling off at the beginning or end of a route where shade is scarce. It has a pronounced semicircular shape reminiscent of a shell, hence its name. Its sand is white and the water color is turquoise due to its relative shallow depth. It has a nudist area.

La Caldera mountain is only 127 meters high, but it is the highest point on the islet of Lobos. From the top you have some truly spectacular views.

October 2, 2024,🇪🇸Rund um die Insel Lobos – Fuerteventura
Today we took a boat trip from Corralejo to the island of Lobos.
The uninhabited island of Lobos (Spanish Islote de Lobos, island of the seals) is part of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, which belong to Spain. You can easily walk around it, about 11 km, and there are also beautiful bays for swimming and snorkeling.
The …

Apparently you need a permit for the island. But we didn't have to show ours and according to the permit, only 200 people are allowed to be at each of the two timeslots (10 a.m. - 2 p.m. & 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.). Theoretically there should only have been around 80 people there (2nd slot) but there were many …

GR-131. the number is on my mind. The Canarian long-distance hiking trail GR-131 could be my next adventure. In the next few days I will hike individual stages on Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Gomera to be really sure that I want to tackle it.

During archaeological excavations in 2012[3] and 2022[4], a workshop for extracting purple from the sea snail Stramonita haemastoma was uncovered on Lobos. More than 60,000 snail shells were counted. In these shell piles and their surroundings were found tools that the purple workers used in the manufacturing process, such as basalt anvils and hammers, small parts of iron blades (possibly …

Anyone who goes to the island should decide beforehand whether they want to hike to the lighthouse or go swimming in the sea. The 4 hours allowed by the local authority are not enough for both.

From the port of Corralejo, it takes 15 minutes on the ferry (€ 15 there and back) to Isla de Lobos. There you can hike a beautiful circular route with a few variations and make a detour to the Montaña La Caldera to enjoy the view over the sea to Fuerteventura and Lanzerote.

Magnificent excursion practically surrounding the island of Lobos in Fuerteventura, from where the ferry leaves us that is taken in summer every half hour in Corralejo and that there are also many other alternatives from the same port of Corralejo, and in an anti-clockwise direction we started walking around to the island towards the Martiño Lighthouse, and then continue and …

What a nice trip: With the ferry to the island of wolves - the Isla de Lobos. The name Lobos comes from the sea lions (lobos marinos) that used to live on the Lobos coast. We didn't see any today 😅
There was a lot of nature, sand, sun and water... the ingredients that make up great days. 😃
Climbing …
