Brockenhurst is a picturesque village in the heart of the New Forest, surrounded by some of the loveliest Forest landscapes. Starting from the village at its famous watersplash, this varied walk takes you across grazed lawns and through riverside woodlands before skirting around the edge of the village to take in some great heathland views.

During the summer months, this section of riverine woodland is a popular destination for visitors to rest, whilst during the winter the woodland helps to slow the water flow through the village. Riverine woodlands are also important wildlife corridors and in the summer look for dragonflies and maybe glimpse a kingfisher which nests in the river banks.

Starting at the woodland edge, look for bog myrtle, a low growing evergreen shrub with a distinctive resinous eucalyptus-like smell that can be used to repel insects. Further along the path, look for the round-leaved sundew, a plant that feeds on insects using the red sticky hairs on its leaves to catch them.
